    GLP-1 skin questions, answered

    What is 'GLP-1 face'?

'GLP-1 face' is a cosmetic term for the hollow, gaunt, prematurely aged look that can follow rapid GLP-1 weight loss. When facial fat is lost faster than skin can retract, the face can look deflated, with more visible folds and laxity. It is a change in skin and facial structure, not a medical condition.

Yes, indirectly. The medication itself does not damage skin, but the fast weight loss it drives can cause facial volume loss, skin laxity, dryness and a weakened moisture barrier. Dermatology reviews now describe these as common, manageable effects of GLP-1 weight loss.

Skin relies on collagen and elastin to retract as you slim down, but rapid loss outpaces that renewal, so skin can slacken before it adapts. The effect is usually greater with larger or faster weight loss and in more mature skin.

Topicals cannot replace lost facial fat, but they can soften the visible changes. Humectants like hyaluronic acid plump and hydrate, barrier lipids lock in moisture, and firming actives support elasticity. Starting early, while skin is still adapting, tends to give the best results. This is skincare guidance, not medical advice.

Four ingredients do most of the work: hyaluronic acid for deep hydration, ceramides with niacinamide to rebuild the skin barrier, firming actives to support collagen and elasticity, and squalane to restore a soft, healthy looking surface.

Often, yes. Lower food and fluid intake plus rapid metabolic change leave skin drier and can weaken its lipid barrier, raising transepidermal water loss (TEWL), which is felt as tightness, flaking and sensitivity. Replenishing ceramides has been shown to help restore the barrier.

The fat loss itself can be long lasting, but skin appearance often improves as weight stabilises and with consistent supportive care, and some people also consider in clinic volume treatments. Daily hydration, barrier repair and firming meaningfully improve day to day skin quality. Discuss medical options with your clinician.

As early as you can, ideally when you start treatment or notice the first signs of dryness or hollowing. Supporting hydration, barrier and firmness while skin is still adapting helps limit how visible the changes become.

“You lost the weight. You deserve skin that reflects how you feel — not how fast you lost it.”

Apply morning and evening to cleansed skin. Most users see visible improvement by week 4.
